Description:

From Mountaineer Week Craft Fair & Quilt Show Website:

Tradition has always been at the forefront of Mountaineer Week and in 1972 the first Arts & Crafts Festival was held. A focus was placed on the traditional crafts that were created by those who settled in Appalachia. In cooperation with the West Virginia State Department of Commerce and the Campus Club, the Arts and Crafts Festival was held in the Gold Ballroom of the Mountainlair. Some crafts that highlighted the event were spinning, wood carving, early American basketry, cornhusk dolls, pottery, leather crafts, blacksmithing, and dulcimer making.

Today, the Craft Fair and Quilt Show both remain the central focus of Mountaineer Week. The Craft Fair is now spills out on to the majority of Mountainlairs entire ballroom and second floor and features traditional and contemporary crafts with 60 artisans from West Virginia and neighboring states. Adorning the Mountaineer Room and Ballroom Stage of the Mountainlair will be colorful handmade quilts showcasing the talents of the Country Roads Quilt Guild members.
