Description: | From John Randolph Spring Arts Kick Off Website: The John Randolph Spring Arts Kick Off is our annual event to open Fort New Salem. Our event features live demonstrations by various artisans and has including glass blowing, basket making, wood working, potting, blacksmithing, paper marbling, Appalachian spring cooking demonstration and more. Live music is also planned.
It is named in honor of the founder of Fort New Salem. John, then a professor at Salem College, was the visionary who in the late 1960's saw a need to preserve our regions Appalachian heritage. In the 1970's John efforts led to the development of the Fort New Salem campus with many of the cabins being brought in during that time.
This event is sponsored in part by a grant from the Clarksburg - Harrison Cultural Foundation.
